Ways to Fix a Camera That Isn't Working on Android

We shutterbugs always love to capture every minute of our lives, whether we are on a daily travel, going somewhere for a weekend trip, or going out to dinner with our loved ones; we love to keep snapping. But what happens when the front or back camera stops responding, slows, or displays the error 'camera stopped'? We might lose our minds!

Yes, that is pretty obvious to most people.

Have you ever encountered an issue such as 'can't connect to camera on Android' or 'camera stopped'? If so, don't be concerned! If not, having this information will come in handy in the future. Today's article will go through the various camera faults that users may encounter, as well as the causes of the issues and how to resolve them.

Why does this error occur?

When you try to use the camera on your Android smartphone, you may see the following error message: "Camera error: Can't connect to the camera." This message indicates that there is an issue with either the software or the hardware of your device. The majority of the time, the issue is with the program, which can be fixed.

When you try to launch the camera, whether through the camera app directly or from any other 3rd party app such as any instant messenger (QQ, WeChat, KIK, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Skype, etc.), or social media app (Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.), or any other app, you will get a blank screen and, followed by, an error message.

What Are the Causes of Android Camera Failure?

There are no particular causes for camera app or third-party camera access issues, however below are some possible causes for the applications' camera access misbehavior. They are as follows:

  • Low RAM
  • Inbuilt software or technical glitch
  • Camera incompatibility
  • Low device storage
  • Huge number of apps installation leads to slow device performance
  • 3rd party app obstruction

How to Resolve the Android Camera Failed Issue

Here, we will provide you with a list of all potential solutions to these Android camera difficulties. The remedies are presented in order of their probable capacity to resolve the issue. You will find a variety of options; if one does not work for you, try another.

Special Note: To avoid certain fundamental mistakes, I strongly advise you to free up some space on your Android smartphone and RAM storage before investigating the camera feature. If the camera continues to misbehave or displays an error message, try the remedies listed below..

Solution 1. Reboot the Device

This is the most fundamental method for making things happen on any Android smartphone. This is the simplest method for resolving minor difficulties on an Android phone. A simple reboot may resolve some fault issues in a device; restarting resolves any technical difficulties with a device. A hard system reboot can assist in reducing excessive RAM use by disabling background programs that are not doing any operations but are eating RAM in the background; therefore providing more room for the camera to run..

Solution 2. Pull the Battery Out

Pulling out the battery while the gadget is still powered on. It is a form of soft reset that can assist in getting your camera working again. This approach may not work for all smartphones since the battery may be built in. Basically, most phones these days will not work with this method, but if you have an old Android handset, give it a shot..

Solution 3. Stop the Camera App Using Force

Follow the actions listed below.:

  1. First open your app drawer or select the ‘Settings’ from your home screen.
  2. Now find and tap on the option: Apps/Manage apps.
  3. Now scroll and look for the camera app under All Apps.
  4. Tap on it and go for ‘Force stop’ the app.
  5. Now quickly reboot your device.
    Force Stop the Camera App

This will resolve the current minor software issue that your camera app was experiencing..

Solution 4. Clear App Data and Cache

We always prefer and suggest this strategy to our users. It is applicable not only to camera apps, but also to any other app problems.

Follow this steps I’m mentioning below:

  1. Open settings menu from app drawer on your Android device
  2. Scroll down and open the option called Apps or App manager
  3. Under that menu scroll down and look for the camera app
  4. Click on the clear data and clear cache followed by quick reboot

This is the method we always favor and recommend to our users. It is relevant not just to camera applications but also to any other app concerns.

Solution 5. Reset all App Preferences

This is the extended version of the previous solution.

  1. Go to Settings option from the app drawer of your Android device.
  2. Again open Apps/Apps manager.
  3. Look for All Apps.
  4. Tap on the menu icon on the top right corner.
  5. Now click on the ‘Reset App Preferences’.
    Reset all App Preferences

Solution 6. Clear Google Services Framework Cache

Google Services Framework syncs all of your data and stores device info in the Settings menu. It also aids in the effective operation of the system apps. Clearing the Google Services Framework cache will help solve the problem, especially if you use an Android phone with Google camera.

Please follow the procedures outlined below to do this:

First, navigate to Settings > Application Manager > Select All > Then go to Google Services Framework > Tap the "Force stop" button, then the "Clear cache" button..

Clear Google Services Framework Cache

Now please perform a reboot on your device.

Solution 7. Enter into Safe Mode

Safe mode allows you to disable all 3rd party apps you installed in your device.
Long press on power key as you do for turning off your device.

Tap and press on power off option. Then a popup will come as the option of Reboot to safe mode. Tap OK and enter into the Safe Mode.

Enter into Safe Mode

There can be a bunch of 3rd party apps installed on your device that has the permission to access the camera like WhatsApp, Facebook etc. These apps sometimes obstruct the normal functioning the camera thus causing issues to open the main camera app.

If you are not facing any issue with camera in Safe Mode, then some 3rd app is causing the camera to dysfunction, uninstall the 3rd party apps one by one that ask for camera permission and look for the issue. If uninstallation of any app solves the problem, the problem is solved.

Special Note: For the specific devices with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and above you can preferably choose app permission. Just reboot the device again to restore and come back to normal mode.

Solution 8. Uninstall all third-party camera apps / Try any other camera app

If you have downloaded a third-party camera app, remove it first for a trial and error process. It is possible that the program updated some files, causing the camera to malfunction. Avoid downloading applications (Camera apps) from untrustworthy sources (sources other than the Google Play Store), since they may include malware, viruses, or spyware that might infect the device.
